Likas Square Hotel, Kota Kinabalu

Likas Square Apartment Hotel was recommended to me by my friend who also had her tour in Kota Kinabalu. They traveled in large group and when she knew that I’m traveling with 10 people, she wonderfully shared that Likas Square offers a huge unit at an affordable price.out (1)

Cebu Pacific informed me that our flight will be rescheduled so it means that our stay in the hotel also needed to be changed. Likas Square responded to my email right away and amended our booking details.

From the airport, it took us 15 minutes to get there with no traffic. The hotel lobby is not that impressive but once we get into the unit, it is something you can call home!

My mom’s friends and I were shocked that the unit is spacious and posh! We loved it.

There are three bedrooms.

One bedroom has their own shower room and then there’s another shower room near the living room.

The living room. Great place to slouch all day!living room (1)living room (8)

The dining area where we haven’t eaten much because we were outside most of the time.dining

The kitchen that has appliances you might need. There’s a complimentary coffee, a percolator, a stove, but there’s no microwave oven. There’s a refrigerator,

The bar area. Wish there’s patron tequila, LOL.

Going back to the ground floor, you may find a grocery store just at the back of the front office.

The pool area. Bring your own towel. pool (2)

The Excellent Customer Service Story

I have itinerary on where should we be going to maximize the Kota Kinabalu city. However, there is one big problem. THE RIDE. We visited KK when it was Eid al Fitr meaning, people are on a holiday for almost one week. I asked for help of the front desk if how are we going to travel into the remarkable places of the city. She told me that it is difficult to book drivers that day since it’s a holiday. She did her best on finding a ride for us for two days from two different guys and I feel thankful that if it wasn’t for her, we could have ended up in two scenario: idle inside the hotel or commuting from bus to bus with aunties unstoppable complains. LOL. Thank you once again for the hospitality Likas Square!

Lesson learned.

You know where you want to go but don’t know how. As you age, it’s when you think that it is better to have plans because you are already tired of mistakes and uncertainties.

This is the difference between the young and the old. If I’m with people who are in their 20s, it is sure that there’s no plan; taking all the cab ride would be enough for us. But I’m with people who has the same age with my mother, plan must be set with security. Oh I’m missing Kota Kinabalu already!17500106_10203040669654045_856013359_o

Kokol Haven Resort, Malaysia

Are you like me that whenever I feel so low, I want to be in a place so high and take the leap? Lol, it’s not suicide. To be in a high place is refreshing, right? It’s like you exist only to feel the freedom and happiness.

Kokol Haven Resort

Kokol Haven Resort is the perfect spot to watch the blue sky and the orange flares of the sun that prevails the whole city because it’s atop of the hill; 1,000 m above sea level. It is a newly established resort and the way going there is also zigzag and narrow but just 1 hour away from the city.kk-kokol-haven-8

On the way there already pays the price because of the breathtaking view. Moreover, the way is steeper than the way to Kinabalu Park, I think. Again, we hired Fat for the Kinabalu Park and Kokol Haven Resort for RM600. This is a reasonable price because the way is going up.

There’s an entrance fee of RM 10 but a free drink comes to that. So we enjoyed while waiting because the scenery is really majestic even if it’s not sunset yet.kk-kokol-haven-14

We arrive around 4 PM and the sun is still soaring high yet the wind is really cool.kk-kokol-haven-1

The resort has function rooms, room accommodation, nipa hut which I guess is also for an accommodation, and of course the overlooking al fresco dining area which is divided into three. Kids can freely play in the bermuda grass.kk-kokol-haven-3kk-kokol-haven-5kk-kokol-haven-7

There’s also this small bridge that opted you to strike a pose.14799837_10202342517200670_1517956713_o

After having endless conversations, kidding around with our shy type tour guide, appreciating the beauty of the country and the disciplinary virtue and very friendly manner of Malaysians, we got more captivated by the ravishing city as the sun sets. kk-kokol-haven-17kk-kokol-haven-13

The scene is very surreal…. it’s in that moment you can finally say “I love Sabah.” Well,  I also hope I’m with someone special while having that moment. Hahaha!kk-kokol-haven-16

So if you are a foreign traveler and need help to reach there, you may call Fatridzen’s tour service. Reach him here:

Kinabalu Park, Malaysia

When there are so many questions left unanswered, we let the days pass by either taking it all in or leaving it all out. But maybe the latter is better; to escape for the mean time is the solution. Maybe it’s true that whatever the question is, travel is the answer.kinabalu-park-2

On this second day tour in Sabah, we hired Fatridzen as our driver and tour guide, short for Fat.  I coincidentally met him while he’s waiting for the tourists in the lobby of Likas Square Hotel. We negotiated how much will be his price if we are going to Kinabalu Park and Kokol Haven Resort and ended to the price of RM600, for a van and gas for 7 pax. I can say that it’s a reasonable price because those 2 destinations mentioned above where you would feel deaf due to the high latitude.

Here is his number and you may also reach his Facebook here.

Kinabalu Park is 2 1/2 hours away from the city. Take note that this city has no heavy traffic. The road is zigzag and you can already see the Mount Kinabalu while you are on the way.kinabalu-park

We stopped in the market called Nabalu, it’s a midway stop to Kinabalu Park. We bought t-shirts, ref magnet, keychains, bags and the common souvenirs there.kinabalu-park-1

When we got to Kinabalu Park, the place is very cool like it’s penetrating to your bones.kinabalu-park-3

There were some mountain climbers when we were there. Most of them are Japanese. You cannot enter if you will not climb the mountain and if you are not well geared. It will actually take you whole day to reach the top as it gets rocky at the peak.kinabalu-park-7

Here’s the squirrel we fed. Beware tho that when it touches your fingers, do not remove it right away because its claws are sharp. One of the aunties I’m with, was wounded. It’s a good thing that our tour guide, Fat, has emergency kit.

So I actually like to visit this place to check rafflesia, the biggest flower in the world, but it wasn’t the season during that time so we didn’t get the chance to see it.

After that, we went next to Kokol Haven Resort.
