Wingman Collective, Makati

Team Aldous held its 4th year anniversary at Wingman Collective last October 7, 2017. Aldous Calubad, the man behind this group has always been active to try different food restaurants around the metro. Later, he realized that exploring restaurants would be more fun when he is around with people who also share the same interest.

With the power of the internet on this generation, everything comes easy. He was able to gather bloggers who are also strangers to one another yet, were able to become friends as the years went on. Some people come, some people go which I am quite guilty about since I’ve been MIA for some time, however fast forward today, we have reached Team Aldous on 4!

While we were waiting for the others to arrive, the waitstaff started serving us onion rings (P150) and the garlic parmesan curly twist fries (P175). I’m sure the garlic parmesan curly twist fries is the basket that was so in-demand at that time because of its binging flavor. A-must try!

Erik Waldie, the owner, along with the marketing manager, Benj, welcomed us that aimed to showcase the food they offer plus a quiz night to test out our memory.

Erik hosted the quiz night perfectly mind-boggling but thanks to my teammates’ Joy and Tin for being so well-informed with the past and current events that we made to be in the second to the highest score!

Quiz night is for FREE! It happens in Acacia Estates, Taguig every Thursday but as for this branch, the Collective, is still needed to be discussed when it should regularly happen. Meanwhile, we were munching these wings as we were answering the quiz.

The Classic Buffalo Wings 6 pcs (P235) met my expectation on its sweet and tangy flavor.

HEADS UP! Every order comes with carrot sticks and ranch dip. Also, a dozen wings can be split into two flavors.wingman (5)-2048x2000

The Prairie Fire (P235) is also flavored like the buffalo wings but this time, the ranch dip is poured at the top and the spiciness can come from mild to extreme!
wingman (6)-2048x2000

The Moroccan Chermoula (P235) is an exotic spice blend of North African spices. It’s unique, I would say.wingman (9)-2048x2000

This one is called Hell Fire (P235) and yes, it was flaming when served to us. I love spicy food, to be honest, however I cannot stand the hot sensation in my mouth. Man, the spiciness of this one lasts long.

Here are their desserts but I was not able to try it because I was called to play beer pong. Anyway, here’s the picture of their dessert that is absolutely worth drooling.
The final part was capped by playing beer pong. You can play beer pong for FREE! Yes, they just want people to have a good time.

I did not contribute too much score for this because I was having a hard time to shoot the ball (obviously in the photo) but Tin, my teammate was pretty good on this one. We were able to make it to the finals. 😀

Cu Chi, Poblacion, Makati

I can exactly remember the last time I tried to eat Vietnamese food, which was in the year 2014. The impression I had, I can honestly say, is still the same. Vietnamese food is a healthy cuisine in a way that young adults will surely appreciate. Cu Chi, a newly opened restaurant-bar located in the “nightlife” part of Makati, is surely one of the a-must visits when looking for an authentic Vietnamese food.

Food

First served to us, bloggers, is Fresh Spring Rolls with Prawn (P195). Filled with crisp vegetables, a handful of rice vermicelli, and a peanut butter dipping, this appetizer is refreshing. Cu Chi (4)-2048x2000

Xiên nướng which is also known as “skewers” may look like the ordinary BBQ we used to have but the authenticity is very much present in the dish. Is it the lemongrass or the sesame oil that makes the taste distinct? I’m not quite sure but here’s the thing I am certain of – Vietnamese caramel sauce. Yes, that is the secret that the meat is glistening! Here are the pork and chicken variation.

The Pho Bo (P220) is a beef noodle soup and is said the national dish of Vietnam. I was totally impressed in the tenderness of the meat and the subtle flavor of the soup. It was also my first time to try flat rice noodles. Put the bean sprouts and the lettuce to complete the Vietnamese noodles experience.Cu Chi (9)-2048x2000Cu Chi (10)-2048x2000

The Bo Sot Vang or known as Vietnamese Beef Stew is like our very own kaldereta but comes in a flavor of star anise. The beef stew may be served with rice for P250 or with bread for P230. Cu Chi (20)-2048x2000

Drinks

Cu Chi Poblacion

Cu Chi Poblacion

Cu Chi Mule (P250), as the color of the drink, suggests a ladies drink with a hint of watermelon flavor. Ladies in groups of 4 or more will receive a complimentary pitcher of this drink.

The Cu Chi Cucumber Mojito (P220) is a mild one. With tons of leaves on this drink, it got me thinking that it’s a herbal drink, lol.

The margarita (P180) has nothing special.

The chocolate martini (P220) is pleasing as dessert.

Come between 5pm and 10pm for Happy Hour and Buy 1 Take 1 on all of their signature cocktails! What a treat!

Located on the second floor of a building, it was a little hard for me to get into the place. Just as the saying would say, look up to find the answer. On my case, I did this literally to find the place where should I be going. ^_^. The place is not airconditioned so I just find it quite hard to get drunk here if the weather was hot. However, the murals and the vibe did achieve the Viet feels. The serving is reasonable on its price and the taste is as good as authentic (according to the people I was with). The waitstaff are also friendly and attended our needs right away.

Dwntown & Halsted, BGC

Dwntown & Halsted Bar

Downtown and Halsted is known in offering drinks but they are very much delighted to tell that they are also offering food which is crafted by Chef Marco Legasto. He is also the man behind the food of Abuelas and Prime 101.
Dwntown & Halsted (2)-1024x1000

The first food served to us exceeded my expectation. The Mushroom Soup (P250) tasted fresh. It is thick but not creamy and the flavor is well-balanced.
Dwntown & Halsted (7)-1024x1000

The Tikka Wrap (P240) has cucumber, lettuce, and yogurt with pleasing spices that did not overpower the vegetables. Chips are served on the side with a spicy dip.
Dwntown & Halsted (16)-1024x1000

The Portobello and Quinoa Salad (P250) is a mystery. The taste is very distinct. Maybe because it’s my first time eating quinoa, the couscous-like seeds that glide to my teeth as I try to chew it.
Dwntown & Halsted (11)-1024x1000

The pork skewer (P150) has the typical taste of barbecue but varied by less oil and less sauce. The chicken skewer (P150)  has nothing much appealing unlike the lengua skewer (P250) that is sumptuous and toothsome!

The aroma of Spiced Black Mussels with Fresh Chili and Curry Leaves (P250) made me scream inside of me “I need vitamin sea!”
Dwntown & Halsted (14)-1024x1000

The Crispy Pork Knuckles (P580) knocked us out as it satiated our hunger for the night. I just like how they make a sinful dish less sinful because it was served to us not oily. The dip for this is also good.
Dwntown & Halsted (18)-1024x1000

The Baby Back Ribs (P580) is tender with the perfect non-smoky sauce.
Dwntown & Halsted (21)-1024x1000

The Seafood Pasta (P350) may look like a pesto based but as I got to try it, the parsley and garlic creamy flavor prevailed. The Chorizo Pasta (P385) awakens your breakfast taste bud.

Dwntown & Halsted (20)-1024x1000

Dwntown & Halsted (19)-1024x1000

The East Side Elavation (P350) is superbly concocted. It’s a drink made of hendricks, fresh lime, kiwi, basil, balsamic vinegar. A recommended booze!
Dwntown & Halsted (6)-1024x1000

As for the artworks, the artist may send their work to them for screening.

Dwntown & Halsted is a place where the people could actually talk while hanging out and drinking their alcohol. It’s a street concept but classy in a way. The food was presented has its craftsmanship and with well-balanced taste; I like the lengua skewers, crispy pork knuckles, baby back ribs, and seafood pasta. As for the waitstaff, they accommodated us in a friendly manner.
