Mama Lou’s, Ayala the 30th

Homey and warm, this is how I would describe Mama Lou’s Restaurant as soon as I enter the dining area. Its French windows painted in green colors and the walls made of bricks already implies that the restaurant offers Italian cuisine even without looking at the menu yet.Mama Lou’s Restaurant

As the name suggests, Mama Lou’s is a family business who’s behind is a woman sharing her craft in delivering scrumptious food. However, the restaurant did not start out purely as an Italian but French-Italian. It was then they discovered that Filipinos are closer to Italian and so they stick into it that makes Mama Lou’s what they are today.

Appetizer

Bacon Poutine (P230) was served to us, bloggers, to whet our appetite. It’s French fries topped with brown gravy. It’s not the gravy I certainly would not expect to the fast food chain because of its authentic flavor.

Thinly sliced beef is the meat of our Carpaccio di Manzo (P375) flavored with olive oil and balsamic vinegar that tap our healthy options.

Pizza

Their pizza is thin, surely the crust is cooked in a brick oven. We tried the Quattro Formaggi Large (P425) where the toppings are bursting in colors of orange and yellow made of tomato, mozzarella, cheddar, blue cheese, and brie. I would suggest ordering this if you are a fan of CHEEZZEEE! Meanwhile, the Bianca Large (P395) is less intense as it’s made of cream, mozzarella, mushroom, and bacon.

Pasta

The drool-worthy Vesuvio (P495), was the first pasta served to us and so I think is the star of the night. The name itself would leave you clueless what it is but it’s a rigatoni positioned vertically arranged in round shape. The dripping ricotta adds to the beauty of this dish. The taste is also beautiful, I would say. It’s perfect – beautiful inside and out.

The Truffle Mac & Cheese (P325) left us all in awe as we spooned to try it. Just lifting the spoon already satisfied our hunger because of the sticky melted mozzarella.

The Spaghetti con Tuyo Filleto (P295) certainly has oil but surprisingly it is not oily. It is topped with our favorite tuyo, tomatoes, and arugula. Mama Lou’s observed to offer fresh ingredients!

All of the three plates of pasta served are recommended. I cannot choose which of the three is the best as they have their own charm.

Meat

The Chicken Marsala (P390) sauce is made up of marsala wine but the dish is saltier because of the caper sauce. It also has ham and mozzarella with mashed potatoes on the side.

The Rosemary Lamb Rack (P695) has an intriguing green sauce which would make you think it’s wasabi. By looking at the picture below, you would notice that I focused it less to the meat since I want you to see the green sauce that appealed to me on the dish. It has a hint of mint which makes me devour more of the grilled New Zealand lamb with rosemary.

Risotto

The Risotto Tarfuto Funghi (P325) has the wild mushroom and truffle cream. It has the same taste of Vesuvio pasta.

Seafood

They also let us try their seafood dish which is Prawns Thermidor (P695). The head of the prawns was made as the plating then the flesh was chopped in cubes drowned in creamy sauce. The dish has the taste of coconut milk.

Dessert

To end our exploration of Mama Lou’s, they let us try the Italian Tiramisu (P160). The cake is not that much impressive as compared to the second dessert served to us which is the Take the Cannoli. The plating is very much presentable. The homemade cocoa-marsala shell is filled with Italian mascarpone cheese that plays the hard and soft texture in my mouth while savoring it. I definitely recommend this.

The Mama Lou’s Iced Tea (P75) is very unique. It has a mint after taste that cleanses our palate. I think it also detoxifies me since I kept on peeing. LOL. Or maybe it’s just me.

As I have mentioned, the place is well-ventilated and it was full-house when we got there and there are some diners who are patiently waiting at the reception area. The interior has a painting of Mona Lisa, a portrait of Marilou and a display of plates in the pastel color. The price is reasonable to the taste and serving of the food. The waitstaff accommodated us as fast as they can and were friendly. All of the dishes tasted great except for the Chicken Marsala and the Tiramisu. I would definitely want my parents to try this restaurant and so should you. What are you waiting for, try and visit their fourth branch here in Ayala the 30th!

Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen, Century Mall

I was working near Century Mall in Makati for less than than two years yet I never had the chance to roam around there. I mean, I go there to shop office supplies during office hours but other than that, I didn’t get to stay longer.

I got a voucher from Metrodeal and so I asked my high school best friend who is also working within the area to have dinner in Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen. The photo below explains it.mj and i

We ordered gyoza (P150) and the taste did not fail.  It was browned but not burned, crunchy but soft, and inside is juicy and flavorful! Their gyoza is highly recommended.Ikkoryu (3)

Since tonkotsu ramen is the specialty of this restaurant, MJ and I opt to order one.

Google: Tonkotsu means pork bone and refers to the ingredients of the broth. Tonkotsu should be rich and have an almost creamy texture.

The wait staff asked us if we want our noodles soft, normal, or hard. The condiments are all ready on each table and they serve house tea

I ordered black garlic tonkotsu (P380) because of my curiosity of the taste if the food is black. I mean, I haven’t tried it before. Anyway, it was indeed garlic-y but it does not last in your mouth like boy bawang. LOL! The roast garlic and the broth blended perfectly! I did not know that it is one of their bestsellers not until now!Ikkoryu (1)

Meanwhile, my friend is addicted to curry recently so she’s very predictable. She ordered curry cheese tonkotsu (P380) and I also tried it. Her food is very saporous and heavy, I may say. It is topped with potato, carrots, seaweeds and parmesan cheese.Ikkoryu (4)

The restaurant highlights the wooden interiors which is eye-catching but the lighting is  a little dim. I may say that they are a little pricey compare to other ramen house that I visited. The serving is pretty good since we were really full after. However, the presentation/plating does not look appealing; it’s a good thing that the taste did compensate. The service is fast, but the waitstaff is a bit stiff.

RBCTY, Maginhawa

One of the reasons that makes people get stressed living in the city is because of the heavy traffic. In my case, to commute five hours everyday six times in a week for almost two years is one of the factors that made me decide to take a break in a short time. Ergo, I was able to attend a food event because I’m freed from the working  world. And I thank Aldous for inviting me.RBCTY (1)

Indeed the city could give us a lot of stress, but if you are going to a city about ribs it’s a feast! That’s what totally happened to us, bloggers.

To start this joyride in RBCTY, served to us is Dynamite. Surprisingly, there’s no bombing happened but a spark. I mean spark means kilig, kilig means asim kilig especially with that salsa sauce. Don’t kill me, I’m not corny.RBCTY (4)

Next served is the beer’s best partner, Not Just Nachos (P198). Truly, this nachos dish is special because of the rib shreds. “I’ll stop the world, and melt with…” cheese. I love nachos!RBCTY (5)

After a long ride, we finally arrived to the Big City (P718).  RBCTY (6)

Big City is good for three to four persons and you may choose four side dishes. We were able to try eight of the side dishes. I like the coleslaw, mashed ‘tato, potato salad and the thin fries that is sour cream flavor. Of course, CTY rice is a recommendation, too. We’re Asian, peeps.RBCTY

Want to have a look again of Big City? This charcoal-grilled ribs is just really huge! Hitting the ribs with the lights, Big City is sparkling because of its overly drizzled barbecue sauce. I love that the sauce is not too sweet and not too sour. The meat is tender and luscious!RBCTY (7)

Now that we got the ribs, we’re going to have the wings! Their chicken wings are one of the bests I had. It’s crispy but fleshy; it’s a wings that is not intended for snacks but for a meal.  RBCTY (8)

The wings that we got made us fly in heaven because the next served to us is… drum roll please! Desserts!

RBCTY (13)
Queso de Bola Cake
RBCTY (12)
White Toblerone Cheesecake
RBCTY (11)
Brownie a la Mode

Queso de Bola Cake (P148) is saltier so I like the White Toblerone Cheesecake (P148) better. Both of the cakes are dense but what made me to reach heaven is because of the Decadent Brownie a la Mode (P168). The chewy brownies, rich vanilla ice cream and the oozing chocolate sauce is very sinful. I don’t know why it feels heaven when in fact it is sinful. LOL!

The restaurant’s theme is street so there are so much industrial elements to this place. RBCTY’s location is quite a secret place because you have to get in to a building that looks like an apartment. Surprisingly, it has a second floor that can accommodate up to fifty four persons. While the serving is satisfying, I am most pleased to the taste of the food that we got to try. For a restaurant to cater what is most valued to the diners – the quantity, the quality, and the price, the meal they offer is pretty much affordable. As for the service, I am very much grateful that the owner, Ms. Aya, entertained us well but as for the servers, I hope they would smile and be more energetic. 🙂 They are attentive, though.
