Main Street, Kapitolyo

Main Street is sure one of the head-turner restaurants in Kapitolyo because it is not so common for the Filipinos to stumble a Canadian comfort food.

With the food that I will get to show, I am confident to share with how Canadian meal taste-like since the menu and the food served is crafted with the chef owner, Adam Tan, who had stayed in Canada long enough to understand their taste buds.

Appetizer

That night, we, the bloggers start off healthy with the Cajun Spiced Prawn Salad. It has its greens but not the boring one. The Cajun spiced grilled prawns are not the only thing that brings flavor to the salad but the orange tarragon vinaigrette. It’s a-must order!

Poutinerie

The next food served is one of the well-known dishes in Canada – poutines…. poutato… potato! We got to try two of the poutines on Main Street menu. I actually like both but if one prefers more meat on poutines, the Bacon Poutine is the right choice since the bacon is also homemade and flavorful. Meanwhile, Supreme Poutine is like eating supreme nachos but with more add-ons onto it. It has flank steak strips, cheese sauce, tomato salsa, shredded lettuce and cilantro crema.

Mains

Judging from its presentation, I knew that the 3-Pc Buttermilk Fried Chicken is not the ordinary fried chicken meal since it is an 8-hour brined Southern Style with garlic cream sauce. The chicken is crispy but it has a surprising taste I loved. This one may be served with rice or fries.

The Main Street had something that is not the usual thing everyone would encounter since it’s a Bacon Jam Grilled Cheese. Who would have thought that a jam goes well with a cheese! This sounds romantic, isn’t? A GOOEY cheese and a SWEET bacon jam is the perfect example that opposites do attract. The meal also comes with tomato soup.

The Main Street also has seafood and one dish pours tons of it! In Tomato Braised Seafood Stew, there are prawns, mussels, and fish! The tomato flavor is not too strong and the rosemary garnished adds aroma to the stew. May serve with rice or toasted bread.

Burger

I was totally mind blown when they served not just one but four burgers! All of them tasted good but I like the Barbecue Burger more since it has strips of applewood smoked bacon. Would it also be too much if I tell that the Barbecue Burger also has a fried onion ring in it?

I also liked the Caramelized and Bleu. So I know some people who are not fond of bleu cheese but sorry I am so this is second on my list. It has arugula, garlic mayonnaise, and caramelized onions so how it was named.

The Classic Cheeseburger has romaine lettuce, sliced tomatoes, grilled onions, cheddar cheese, ketchup, mustard, and pickles.

The Double Bacon is sinful. It has their homemade bacon jam and applewood smoked bacon. The kick of mozzarella cheese adds yumminess to this burger.

Pizza

A confession to make for the  Barbeque Chicken Pizza, I cannot really remember how it tasted so I just better flash here the photo. It is topped with chicken, grated cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, barbecue sauce, chopped cilantro and sliced red onions.

Pasta

Opposite with the pizza, the Beef Shin Ragu is the dish I can completely remember the taste since it is a unique dash in my palate. I know it’s not the cheese that caught my attention but it’s the impeccable pair of beef shin and their tomato sauce.

Dessert

The room for dessert in Main Street was quite big. We were fortunate enough to try all of the desserts they offer so I will rank it and my favorite of them all is the Blueberry Cheesecake. The cheesecake is not dry and the sweetness is just right. On the other hand, the Fudge Brownie a la Mode is close to my liking if only the brownie is moist. Lastly, the Apple Crumble is also good but maybe I would like it more if it is drizzled with milk or caramel sauce.

Verdict

Grayish brick walls, black and white photos, black, brown and white chairs, The Main Street plays with that color tones. The restaurant looks vibrant and youthful but with a closer look, it is recognizable that it was an old house tweaked to keep up to the modern age. They also have function area upstairs and they also hold company parties simply because they can :p I mean, the restaurant is really roomy. As for the price, it is reasonable enough since the portioning are done fairly and the taste and menu are well-thought out. Overall, I would not mind coming in Kapitolyo again to dine-in at Main Street.

Kiss the Tiramisu, Makati

Kiss the Tiramisu that had been a talk-of-the-town sometime in December was featured in one of the known shows in the Philippines. The social media platforms were sprawled with ice cream contained in dainty gold-rimmed goblets that are surely worth a double tap in Instagram feeds because of its posh style.

However, it was not because of the hype that my officemates and I visited the said dessert parlor but it was already on our 2018 calendar to visit Kiss the Tiramisu. Yes, we were quite a foodie like that or should I say this serve as a reward for having the long patience of waiting for the payday? Lol, reasons! Anyway, a 20-minute walk from our office was enough reason for us to give it a try, I may say.

The original recipe which is the Classic Tiramisu (P265) got us to scoop first the ice cream and the chocolate shavings and it was a humble beginning. After a while, Irish had the fun to share it with us when there was a surprise in the middle – the mocha and chocolate cookie crumble and it had gotten impeccable when the coffee sauce drips over to the spoon. Oh, I’ve never loved tiramisu even more!

The Matcha Tiramisu (P295), which was my order, is drizzled with a matcha sauce and matcha shavings. Since it was my ice cream, I’ve gotten to evaluate more how good the ice cream was. The vanilla ice cream is like a frozen cotton and little did I know that it is what they are known for – the soft-serve ice cream. (forgive me, please :p). The sensation in my mouth was different and I just kept praising how good it was that went like this,”Dahil ba laging ice cream lang ng convenience store ang nakakain ko kaya ako nasasarapan dito sa kinakain ko ngayon o dahil masarap talaga sya?“. It was soft but thick and not too sweet. I think the mascarpone cheese was behind of all its glory. It also has mocha and chocolate cookie crumble and dark chocolate in the layer of swirls.

Being Kiss the Tiramisu is owned by a Korean, an injeolmi variation will always be there. Injeolmi is a sticky rice cake with a roasted soybean powder and what else could you expect on Injeolmi Tiramisu (P265) – roasted soybean powder, roasted soybean sauce and injeolmi balls at the bottom and core layer of the ice cream. Our mastermind, Eleanor, ordered that and let us taste it. This tiramisu version is the sweetest, I think.

The ambiance of the cafe looks luxurious- the wine glass chandeliers impressed me. With that, the store reflects the price of the dessert they offer – expensive! Nevertheless, the ice cream they offer is not something I got to try anywhere so it was worth trying it out even if the ice cream is worth of one meal. There was a foreigner on the counter (the owner?) and I find her hospitable which is the exact opposite of the barista guy who wears a poker face look. Wow, that was colder than the ice cream! Our waiting hours were not that long and if should I come back? Guess I want to try the Midas Touch with a touch of an edible gold leaf!

Gastro Park, Pasig

Gastro Park (1)-1024x1000

When I got my first job six years ago, I remember when I had my first “banchetto” in Pasig. The food was overflowing yet pocket-friendly. The goers are most likely my age and it seemed that it’s a festival every Friday along the street. Fast forward today, the set-up evolved which we now called food park. Dim lights, chill music, open area, wooden tables at the very center of the lot surrounded by the food stalls that offer unique cuisine or meal is the kind of arrangement we mostly expect at food parks. It is no wonder that the people prefer hanging out in the food park because there’s a food selection to choose from at an affordable price.
Gastro Park (36)-1024x1000

Gastro Park located in Pasig offers something special to the people that I believe the other food parks don’t have. This food park offers unlimited food! UNLIMITED! I was lucky that I got to check them last Wednesday. I’ll share here the interesting finds on each stall. Let’s get it started!

Taipei Kita creatively presented the ice cream that resembles like a plant. Meanwhile, their unli dish is a fried tofu with special sauce for P120.Taipei KitaGastro Park (29)-1024x1000

The MetroMeat Express would surely catch your eye since their concept is a railroad train. What they are offering for unlimited is bacon for P249. On the other hand, I was able to try their Tanker Longsilog (P249) and I love it! Aside from that it is huge, the taste is exceptional and not oily.
Gastro Park (6)-1024x1000Gastro Park (40)-1024x1000

The Tokyo Tempura offers well, tempura at an affordable price. It would surprise you that their unli tempura is only P199.Gastro Park (7)-1024x1000Gastro Park (22)-1024x1000

Tolyo’s Soup and Grill boasts of its Filipino dish with a twist of international flavors. Their best seller is Mexican Bulalo for P165. I really love to try this that night but the soup is just really heavy for a food review. Their Sweet & Heat Pork BBQ is P35/stick. The Flaming Rosemary Bistek also tastes nice.

Get some balls here at Ball Shack. Mac & Cheese Balls is one of their unique offers. Their unli dish is the fish balls for P138.Gastro Park (9)-1024x1000Gastro Park (20)-1024x1000

The Brick Plate’s unli dish is pasta for P250. However, we really are a fan of pizza so we had Honey & Cheese Pizza and the Pulled Pork Pizza. Both of the pizza tasted great. I also like that the crust is not thick.

Dim Sum may look very humble but their steamed sharkfin is delicious. What makes their service special is they let you create your own Dumpling Box! You may choose rice, sauce, and dumpling. Their unli dish is siomai rice for P189!Gastro Park (12)-1024x1000Gastro Park (38)-1024x1000

The Masala Bar is an authentic Indian concept bar but what makes the crowd keep coming back for more in their stall is the Masala Quesadilla (P165). I can say that it’s distinct from the quesadillas I tried but very delectable! Super love it.Gastro Park (13)-1024x1000Gastro Park (25)-1024x1000

The Chixy9 offers unli wings for P249. I got to try the soy garlic and garlic parmesan flavor. I like the garlic parmesan better. Definitely a place to binge for when craving for wings!Gastro Park (14)-1024x1000Gastro Park (21)-1024x1000

The Sweet Nothing offers milkshakes, waffle cones, ice cream cones, cotton candy soda, wafer ice cream sandwiches, and a lot more! Here’s the molten lava cake shake for P130. The bottomless juice of the day is just P120!Gastro Park (16)-1024x1000Gastro Park (26)-1024x1000

Going to the Gastro Park really made my “gastro” full. For the readers, I would recommend drinking here since the unlimited food can be served to the barkada as unlimited pica pica! Sounds perfect for the KUNGFU(mulutan) friends, right?

Here are the other food I did not get to try anymore since I’m full. Still looks delish by looking at the photos. Check it out!
