Gastro Park, Pasig

Food park in the Philippines is getting bigger in the market today. Almost every city in the Metro Manila has food parks and one of them is Gastro Park. What makes it stand out from the rest is each food stall offers an unlimited meal.

When I got my first job six years ago, I remember when I had my first “banchetto” in Pasig. The food was overflowing yet pocket-friendly. The goers are most likely my age and it seemed that it’s a festival every Friday along the street. Fast forward today, the set-up evolved which we now called food park. Dim lights, chill music, open area where the fresh air serves as the air con, wooden tables at the very center of the lot surrounded by the food stalls that offer unique cuisine or meal is the kind of arrangement we mostly expect at food parks. It is no wonder that the people prefer hanging out in the food park because there’s a food selection to choose from at an affordable price.

I’ve been to a lot of food parks especially there is one nearer to my house. However, Gastro Park located in Pasig offers something special to the people that I believe the other food parks don’t have. This food park offers unlimited food! UNLIMITED! I was lucky that I got to check them last Wednesday. I’ll share here the interesting finds on each stall. Let’s get it started!

Taipei Kita creatively presented the ice cream that resembles like a plant. Meanwhile, their unli dish is a fried tofu with special sauce for P120.Taipei KitaGastro Park (29)-1024x1000

The MetroMeat Express would surely catch your eye since their concept is a railroad train. What they are offering for unlimited is bacon for P249. On the other hand, I was able to try their Tanker Longsilog (P249) and I love it! Aside from that it is huge, the taste is exceptional and not oily.

The Tokyo Tempura offers well, tempura at an affordable price. It would surprise you that their unli tempura is only P199.Gastro Park (7)-1024x1000Gastro Park (22)-1024x1000

Tolyo’s Soup and Grill boasts of its Filipino dish with a twist of international flavors. Their best seller is Mexican Bulalo for P165. I really love to try this that night but the soup is just really heavy for a food review. Their Sweet & Heat Pork BBQ is P35/stick. The Flaming Rosemary Bistek also tastes nice.

The Surfries’ iced tea quench our thirst for the spiciness we got from Tolyo’s!

Get some balls here at Ball Shack. Mac & Cheese Balls is one of their unique offers. Their unli dish is the fish balls for P138.Gastro Park (9)-1024x1000Gastro Park (20)-1024x1000

The Brick Plate’s unli dish is pasta for P250. However, we really are a fan of pizza so we had Honey & Cheese Pizza and the Pulled Pork Pizza. Both of the pizza tasted great. I also like that the crust is not thick.

Dim Sum may look very humble but their steamed sharkfin is delicious. What makes their service special is they let you create your own Dumpling Box! You may choose rice, sauce, and dumpling. Their unli dish is siomai rice for P189!Gastro Park (12)-1024x1000Gastro Park (38)-1024x1000

The Masala Bar is an authentic Indian concept bar but what makes the crowd keep coming back for more in their stall is the Masala Quesadilla (P165). I can say that it’s distinct from the quesadillas I tried but very delectable! Super love it.Gastro Park (13)-1024x1000Gastro Park (25)-1024x1000

The Chixy9 offers unli wings for P249. I got to try the soy garlic and garlic parmesan flavor. I like the garlic parmesan better. Definitely a place to binge for when craving for wings!Gastro Park (14)-1024x1000Gastro Park (21)-1024x1000

The Sweet Nothing offers milkshakes, waffle cones, ice cream cones, cotton candy soda, wafer ice cream sandwiches, and a lot more! Here’s the molten lava cake shake for P130. The bottomless juice of the day is just P120!Gastro Park (16)-1024x1000Gastro Park (26)-1024x1000

Going to the Gastro Park really made my “gastro” full. For the readers, I would recommend drinking here since the unlimited food can be served to the barkada as unlimited pica pica! Sounds perfect for the KUNGFU(mulutan) friends, right?

Here are the other food I did not get to try anymore since I’m full. Still looks delish by looking at the photos. Check it out!

Mama Lou’s, Ayala the 30th

Homey and warm, this is how I would describe Mama Lou’s Restaurant as soon as I enter the dining area. Its French windows painted in green colors and the walls made of bricks already implies that the restaurant offers Italian cuisine even without looking at the menu yet.Mama Lou’s Restaurant

As the name suggests, Mama Lou’s is a family business who’s behind is a woman sharing her craft in delivering scrumptious food. However, the restaurant did not start out purely as an Italian but French-Italian. It was then they discovered that Filipinos are closer to Italian and so they stick into it that makes Mama Lou’s what they are today.

Appetizer

Bacon Poutine (P230) was served to us, bloggers, to whet our appetite. It’s French fries topped with brown gravy. It’s not the gravy I certainly would not expect to the fast food chain because of its authentic flavor.
Bacon Poutine

Thinly sliced beef is the meat of our Carpaccio di Manzo (P375) flavored with olive oil and balsamic vinegar that tap our healthy options.

Pizza

Their pizza is thin, surely the crust is cooked in a brick oven. We tried the Quattro Formaggi Large (P425) where the toppings are bursting in colors of orange and yellow made of tomato, mozzarella, cheddar, blue cheese, and brie. I would suggest ordering this if you are a fan of CHEEZZEEE! Meanwhile, the Bianca Large (P395) is less intense as it’s made of cream, mozzarella, mushroom, and bacon.

Pasta

The drool-worthy Vesuvio (P495), was the first pasta served to us and so I think is the star of the night. The name itself would leave you clueless what it is but it’s a rigatoni positioned vertically arranged in round shape. The dripping ricotta adds to the beauty of this dish. The taste is also beautiful, I would say. It’s perfect – beautiful inside and out.

The Truffle Mac & Cheese (P325) left us all in awe as we spooned to try it. Just lifting the spoon already satisfied our hunger because of the sticky melted mozzarella.

The Spaghetti con Tuyo Filleto (P295) certainly has oil but surprisingly it is not oily. It is topped with our favorite tuyo, tomatoes, and arugula. Mama Lou’s observed to offer fresh ingredients!

All of the three plates of pasta served are recommended. I cannot choose which of the three is the best as they have their own charm.

Meat

The Chicken Marsala (P390) sauce is made up of marsala wine but the dish is saltier because of the caper sauce. It also has ham and mozzarella with mashed potatoes on the side.

The Rosemary Lamb Rack (P695) has an intriguing green sauce which would make you think it’s wasabi. By looking at the picture below, you would notice that I focused it less to the meat since I want you to see the green sauce that appealed to me on the dish. It has a hint of mint which makes me devour more of the grilled New Zealand lamb with rosemary.

Risotto

The Risotto Tarfuto Funghi (P325) has the wild mushroom and truffle cream. It has the same taste of Vesuvio pasta.

Seafood

They also let us try their seafood dish which is Prawns Thermidor (P695). The head of the prawns was made as the plating then the flesh was chopped in cubes drowned in creamy sauce. The dish has the taste of coconut milk.

Dessert

To end our exploration of Mama Lou’s, they let us try the Italian Tiramisu (P160). The cake is not that much impressive as compared to the second dessert served to us which is the Take the Cannoli. The plating is very much presentable. The homemade cocoa-marsala shell is filled with Italian mascarpone cheese that plays the hard and soft texture in my mouth while savoring it. I definitely recommend this.

The Mama Lou’s Iced Tea (P75) is very unique. It has a mint after taste that cleanses our palate. I think it also detoxifies me since I kept on peeing. LOL. Or maybe it’s just me.

As I have mentioned, the place is well-ventilated and it was full-house when we got there and there are some diners who are patiently waiting at the reception area. The interior has a painting of Mona Lisa, a portrait of Marilou and a display of plates in the pastel color. The price is reasonable to the taste and serving of the food. The waitstaff accommodated us as fast as they can and were friendly. All of the dishes tasted great except for the Chicken Marsala and the Tiramisu. I would definitely want my parents to try this restaurant and so should you. What are you waiting for, try and visit their fourth branch here in Ayala the 30th!

Three Sisters’ Restaurant of Pasig

This set of friend of mine and I visited a restaurant in Scout area 11 months ago. After that long period, we planned gathering again. However, meeting on a hectic Friday would be difficult for us to have a rendezvous for dinner. Considering our different outs and area of offices, we’d probably passed out because of starvation before reaching Quezon City. We are all living in QC but our work is all going to South so kill them dead with the heavy traffic.

It was then Michael suggested we try eating in Kapitolyo, Pasig at Three Sisters!

While sharing our new life situations, the Crispy Kangkong (P100) made our conversations to keep on coming. The dish is  a little oily but eating water spinach in this kind of cooking would made you to forget you are eating vegetables.three sisters (1)

Our soup, Sinigang na Baboy (P160) is enough for us because the pork meat comes in four slices. The ingredients were a lot and its sourness is just right.

three sisters (2)

Pinakbet (P160), also a mixed vegetable dish, is served on a small plate yet the serving is generous. The shrimp paste (bagoong) did not make the dish to be salty.three sisters (3)

This looks Kare-Kare but I’m telling you it isn’t. This is Adobong Hito sa Gata (P230). It’s not my first time eating hito (catfish) but I enjoyed this dish. The sauce is perfectly blended. This would be a 5/5 for me if only we did not saw blood on the fish.

three sisters (4)

We’ve later realized that we ordered a lot of dishes with an ingredient of eggplants in it. Having said that, here’s Ensaladang Talong (P100) served with shrimp paste, fresh tomatoes and ahmmm (is that onions?) forget it. MJ started to feel itchy so we stopped eating it.three sisters (5)

Budget-wise is the reason why we picked up this place and we’re all being frugal considering our daily expenses. Oh my God, our dilemma is really for grown-ups now. Back to the topic, by looking at our group photo, their serving is good for large meal. Our table can’t breathe and so are we. The taste is nothing special but the ambiance is exceptional; no wonder they’re full house filled with yuppies. They just recently moved in this area last July 17, 2015.three sisters (9)
