Pitmaster’s Smokehouse BBQ, Pasig

Lately, I keep setting foot in Kapitolyo. Given that this place is far from home and also far from where I work, there is a thing that makes me go here that is worth it – and that is food!

That night, we, bloggers are destined to go to the Pitmaster’s Smokehouse BBQ. The exterior of the restaurant looks like the place where we would often see in American movies. Getting in, the color of the interior plays with black and brown that exudes luxury but worry not, the price of the meals they offer are reasonable.

To start off our dinner, we sampled two appetizers on the menu.

If the diners want to begin their food that is tasty, try the Chicken Skin (145). An appetizer that is coated in honey sauce, it is great to pair with beer which I’ll be discussing as we proceed. I prefer chicken skin to be salty, though.
Pitmasters (2)-2048x2000

The next appetizer looked like lumpiang shanghai but it’s actually a Pulled Pork (P200). Thick, full of stuffed shredded pork inside tossed in gochujang (Korean paste), it seemed like that there’s no air could come in this deep fried rolls! What makes this special is the kesong puti dipping!

Salad

My apologies for the vegetarian and vegans but I am happy to their Pit Caesar Salad because it is topped with smoked bacon strips flavored with their homemade anchovy sauce.
Pitmasters (4)-2048x2000

Pizza

The Truffle Pizza (P370) is of course made of truffles, bechamel sauce, and pecorino romano cheese while the Bacon and Mushroom (P370) is topped with smoked bacon, shiitake mushroom, cream cheese, and gremolata.
Pitmasters (7)-2048x2000

The flavor of the pizza is a dash of salty and creamy taste, To be honest, the taste of these two pizzas are almost similar. The pizza comes in thin crust and it is crackery (crunchy?) but not toasted.

Smoked Meat

The next food I’m about to show is jaw-dropping as this platter showcases five of their smoked meats they offer good for four pax. So, here I present you this mouthwatering Pit Platter for P1,500.

The sausage with flavors of your choice: garlic & herb, sweet pepper, Thuringer, Bavarian smokies
The black Angus brisket that is 15-hour smoked.
The pork ribs that is 7-hour smoked.
The bacon strips that is homemade, 7-day cured and smoked.
The smoked coriander chicken with honey chili-garlic glaze and may choose if mild, hot, or magma.

Pitmasters (10)

I like how their smoked meats taste. I am not sure about the method they used but I am certain that their sauce is delectable. Yes, it’s smoked but the taste is far from the usual BBQ flavors we are very familiar with like the sauce from the burgers, pizza, and etc.

On the other hand, the platter also gives you the option to choose four regular sides. The options are the following:
chimichurri rice
pepper rice
kimchi rice
garlic rice
plain rice
Adding sous vide egg for P25 is sulit! There is something magical with the doneness of their eggs.

These are some of the sides if you do not want to go for rice.
plain fries
kamote fries
slaw
corn cob
french beans
mashed sweet potatoes

See the difference of these two platters.

Moving forward, here are their pasta as premium sides.

The Truffle Pasta (P180) is creamy but not heavy. My friend, Shiela, said to pour the apple sauce to add more flavor.
Pitmasters (14)-2048x2000

They have three sauces available which you have the liberty to savor it with any of their food!
Pitmasters (5)-2048x2000

The 4 Cheese Mac & Cheese (P140) looks artificial since the color is bright yellow, almost like the color of a highlighter. However, we learned that the food coloring they used is turmeric! It’s natural after all. Adding the violet cabbage adds glam to this pasta. It has the right amount of cheesy goodness.
Pitmasters (15)-2048x2000

Lastly, the Angus Meatballs Pasta (P180) may look ordinary but this one is my favorite! It’s a blend of the sourness of tomato but with a hint of sweetness, I would have devoured it all if it weren’t for the others who should also taste it. LOL!
Pitmasters (13)-2048x2000

Alcohols

It amazed me when beers are flavored. Most of the people who are not really into drinking beer always have the same reason – it tastes bitter. Well, here comes the toasted marshmallow, brown sugar cinnamon, salted caramel, and hazelnut banana flavored beers! This Beer Paddle is P250 and since the toasted marshmallow is a premium beer, you would have to add P20 for it. I like the hazelnut banana and marshmallow! The brown sugar cinnamon is kinda weird but you may at least give it a try to explore new taste.
Pitmasters (6)

They also offer cocktail drinks and we got to try Red Sangria that is brandy and red wine based and the White Sangria that has Bombay, Absolut, Jose Cuervo, Bacardi, and lime. To be honest, I like the White Sangria better and kinda shocked that this has more alcohol mix than the red one.
Pitmasters (9)-2048x2000

The Pitmaster’s Smokehouse BBQ has established its business just last year and it is surprising that there are a lot of diners coming in. This goes to show that the food they serve is delicious. Well, it is! I highly recommend the platter since you would get to try all of their smoked meats in one order. The place looks small from the outside, and it would make you think that the restaurant looks like a bungalow house. However, getting inside is actually spacious. The price is affordable and the serving is good enough to fill your tummy. This will be a roster of my recommended restaurant!

Gastro Park, Pasig

Gastro Park (1)-1024x1000

When I got my first job six years ago, I remember when I had my first “banchetto” in Pasig. The food was overflowing yet pocket-friendly. The goers are most likely my age and it seemed that it’s a festival every Friday along the street. Fast forward today, the set-up evolved which we now called food park. Dim lights, chill music, open area, wooden tables at the very center of the lot surrounded by the food stalls that offer unique cuisine or meal is the kind of arrangement we mostly expect at food parks. It is no wonder that the people prefer hanging out in the food park because there’s a food selection to choose from at an affordable price.
Gastro Park (36)-1024x1000

Gastro Park located in Pasig offers something special to the people that I believe the other food parks don’t have. This food park offers unlimited food! UNLIMITED! I was lucky that I got to check them last Wednesday. I’ll share here the interesting finds on each stall. Let’s get it started!

Taipei Kita creatively presented the ice cream that resembles like a plant. Meanwhile, their unli dish is a fried tofu with special sauce for P120.Taipei KitaGastro Park (29)-1024x1000

The MetroMeat Express would surely catch your eye since their concept is a railroad train. What they are offering for unlimited is bacon for P249. On the other hand, I was able to try their Tanker Longsilog (P249) and I love it! Aside from that it is huge, the taste is exceptional and not oily.
Gastro Park (6)-1024x1000Gastro Park (40)-1024x1000

The Tokyo Tempura offers well, tempura at an affordable price. It would surprise you that their unli tempura is only P199.Gastro Park (7)-1024x1000Gastro Park (22)-1024x1000

Tolyo’s Soup and Grill boasts of its Filipino dish with a twist of international flavors. Their best seller is Mexican Bulalo for P165. I really love to try this that night but the soup is just really heavy for a food review. Their Sweet & Heat Pork BBQ is P35/stick. The Flaming Rosemary Bistek also tastes nice.

The Surfries’ iced tea quench our thirst for the spiciness we got from Tolyo’s!

Get some balls here at Ball Shack. Mac & Cheese Balls is one of their unique offers. Their unli dish is the fish balls for P138.Gastro Park (9)-1024x1000Gastro Park (20)-1024x1000

The Brick Plate’s unli dish is pasta for P250. However, we really are a fan of pizza so we had Honey & Cheese Pizza and the Pulled Pork Pizza. Both of the pizza tasted great. I also like that the crust is not thick.

Gastro Park (30)-1024x1000Gastro Park (10)-1024x1000

Dim Sum may look very humble but their steamed sharkfin is delicious. What makes their service special is they let you create your own Dumpling Box! You may choose rice, sauce, and dumpling. Their unli dish is siomai rice for P189!Gastro Park (12)-1024x1000Gastro Park (38)-1024x1000

The Masala Bar is an authentic Indian concept bar but what makes the crowd keep coming back for more in their stall is the Masala Quesadilla (P165). I can say that it’s distinct from the quesadillas I tried but very delectable! Super love it.Gastro Park (13)-1024x1000Gastro Park (25)-1024x1000

The Chixy9 offers unli wings for P249. I got to try the soy garlic and garlic parmesan flavor. I like the garlic parmesan better. Definitely a place to binge for when craving for wings!Gastro Park (14)-1024x1000Gastro Park (21)-1024x1000

The Sweet Nothing offers milkshakes, waffle cones, ice cream cones, cotton candy soda, wafer ice cream sandwiches, and a lot more! Here’s the molten lava cake shake for P130. The bottomless juice of the day is just P120!Gastro Park (16)-1024x1000Gastro Park (26)-1024x1000

Going to the Gastro Park really made my “gastro” full. For the readers, I would recommend drinking here since the unlimited food can be served to the barkada as unlimited pica pica! Sounds perfect for the KUNGFU(mulutan) friends, right?

Here are the other food I did not get to try anymore since I’m full. Still looks delish by looking at the photos. Check it out!

Mama Lou’s, Ayala the 30th

Homey and warm, this is how I would describe Mama Lou’s Restaurant as soon as I enter the dining area. Its French windows painted in green colors and the walls made of bricks already implies that the restaurant offers Italian cuisine even without looking at the menu yet.Mama Lou’s Restaurant

As the name suggests, Mama Lou’s is a family business who’s behind is a woman sharing her craft in delivering scrumptious food. However, the restaurant did not start out purely as an Italian but French-Italian. It was then they discovered that Filipinos are closer to Italian and so they stick into it that makes Mama Lou’s what they are today.

Appetizer

Bacon Poutine (P230) was served to us, bloggers, to whet our appetite. It’s French fries topped with brown gravy. It’s not the gravy I certainly would not expect to the fast food chain because of its authentic flavor.
Bacon Poutine

Thinly sliced beef is the meat of our Carpaccio di Manzo (P375) flavored with olive oil and balsamic vinegar that tap our healthy options.
Carpaccio di Manzo

Pizza

Their pizza is thin, surely the crust is cooked in a brick oven. We tried the Quattro Formaggi Large (P425) where the toppings are bursting in colors of orange and yellow made of tomato, mozzarella, cheddar, blue cheese, and brie. I would suggest ordering this if you are a fan of CHEEZZEEE! Meanwhile, the Bianca Large (P395) is less intense as it’s made of cream, mozzarella, mushroom, and bacon.

Pasta

The drool-worthy Vesuvio (P495), was the first pasta served to us and so I think is the star of the night. The name itself would leave you clueless what it is but it’s a rigatoni positioned vertically arranged in round shape. The dripping ricotta adds to the beauty of this dish. The taste is also beautiful, I would say. It’s perfect – beautiful inside and out.
Vesuvio

The Truffle Mac & Cheese (P325) left us all in awe as we spooned to try it. Just lifting the spoon already satisfied our hunger because of the sticky melted mozzarella.
Truffle Mac & Cheese

The Spaghetti con Tuyo Filleto (P295) certainly has oil but surprisingly it is not oily. It is topped with our favorite tuyo, tomatoes, and arugula. Mama Lou’s observed to offer fresh ingredients!
Spaghetti con Tuyo Filleto

All of the three plates of pasta served are recommended. I cannot choose which of the three is the best as they have their own charm.

Meat

The Chicken Marsala (P390) sauce is made up of marsala wine but the dish is saltier because of the caper sauce. It also has ham and mozzarella with mashed potatoes on the side.
Chicken Marsala

The Rosemary Lamb Rack (P695) has an intriguing green sauce which would make you think it’s wasabi. By looking at the picture below, you would notice that I focused it less to the meat since I want you to see the green sauce that appealed to me on the dish. It has a hint of mint which makes me devour more of the grilled New Zealand lamb with rosemary.

Risotto

The Risotto Tarfuto Funghi (P325) has the wild mushroom and truffle cream. It has the same taste of Vesuvio pasta.
Risotto

Seafood

They also let us try their seafood dish which is Prawns Thermidor (P695). The head of the prawns was made as the plating then the flesh was chopped in cubes drowned in creamy sauce. The dish has the taste of coconut milk.
Prawns Thermidor

Dessert

To end our exploration of Mama Lou’s, they let us try the Italian Tiramisu (P160). The cake is not that much impressive as compared to the second dessert served to us which is the Take the Cannoli. The plating is very much presentable. The homemade cocoa-marsala shell is filled with Italian mascarpone cheese that plays the hard and soft texture in my mouth while savoring it. I definitely recommend this.

Take the Cannoli

The Mama Lou’s Iced Tea (P75) is very unique. It has a mint after taste that cleanses our palate. I think it also detoxifies me since I kept on peeing. LOL. Or maybe it’s just me.
Mama Lou's Iced Tea

As I have mentioned, the place is well-ventilated and it was full-house when we got there and there are some diners who are patiently waiting at the reception area. The interior has a painting of Mona Lisa, a portrait of Marilou and a display of plates in the pastel color. The price is reasonable to the taste and serving of the food. The waitstaff accommodated us as fast as they can and were friendly. All of the dishes tasted great except for the Chicken Marsala and the Tiramisu. I would definitely want my parents to try this restaurant and so should you. What are you waiting for, try and visit their fourth branch here in Ayala the 30th!
