Y Café and Bar, Makati

Every day, we always make a choice even in just simplest things. I am sure that everyone has come to across in their thought if we can have everything all at once just because there are moments when we are feeling indecisive. In real life, that is not too close to achieve but not for Y Café and Bar in Makati.

This café in Makati has set everything for the needs of the hungry people. Want coffee? Sure they will brew it. Want alcoholic drinks? They will mix it. Want to eat? They will cook it. Lucky me, I was able to try their food menu last July 13 in courtesy of the Foodies Night Out along with other food bloggers.

Y Café is formerly known as VC Café but the café’s theme continuously cling to the 80’s generation where Dragon Ball Z, Doraemon, Ghost Fighter, Sailormoon etc. are what to be seen in the murals. The life-sized Gundam robot welcomes the guests displayed at the entrance.

Y Café is spacious. It has a live band and indoor games that will not surely get the guests bored. There is also a part of the cafe where you can read books or work on your laptop since the place is more peaceful.

After letting the bloggers watch the AVP, Chef Paolo Manlapaz introduced the food which we will be eating.

Pasta

The Chicken and Mushroom Pasta seem overwhelming. Looking at the flat noodles drowned in the sticky white sauce, I got the feeling that this dish will easily get me full. It has button and shiitake mushrooms, chicken breast, and bacon. I liked that it is not too creamy; it was overall good. Oops, let me not forget the freshly grated parmesan cheese adding to the flavor of it!

The Spicy Aglio Olio Pasta is looking humble with close to pale color but that was the magic to it. The taste is exploding in full of flavor sprinkled with bacon bits and parmesan cheese. The spiciness though, I think is not tolerable for people who are not a fan of it.

Mains

Bathing in chipotle sauce, the Spicy Shrimp and Sausage is as good as it sounds. It is just me who is not really a lover of tangy sauce. It has sautéed Hungarian sausage, shrimps, potatoes, and corn on the cob.

The Pork Chops Ala Pobre is well-seasoned. It has an unidentified herb that caught my palate and is sure good to pair with garlic rice. I hope that the meat would be much tender, though.

Burger

The Y Cheeseburger is stunningly huge. It has a 200g pure beef patty to munch. Since we were that many, the bloggers were not able to try the big one but we were given the mini versions of it. As I was eating, observing whether it might be the cheese that is making it salty, but no, it is the patty. Nevertheless, I hope the real size of the Y Cheeseburger is not as salty as we had since it seems that it is good to indulge. It has bacon strips, onion rings, pickles, sautéed mushrooms, tomato, and lettuce! Just imagine.

can you eat all of these? :p

Promo

Y Café has enticing promos which will probably make me come here again since this is just near my work. Y Café promos are the following: unlimited cocktails for P350, 6+1 of beer also for P350 and, unlimited wine for as low as P500.

Verdict

The ambiance of the café, as mentioned, has an 80s vibe where anime and cartoon characters are displayed. The first half of the café has a dim light where the bar is set and so is the band. The inner part of the café is much more conducive to reading or for working since it has brighter lights and silent. The price is very reasonable and their food has a generous serving, I can say it can be served for 2. I am not quite sure with the service since it was an event but since Y Café pretty much caters to what all people need in the city, I will give them a 4.5. They have a minimal work to do with the taste so the score is…

Ambiance: 5/5

Aozora Cafe + Bistro, Tagaytay

Last June, I visited a Japanese restaurant where the name is inspired by the location of Tagaytay. Because it is known for its cooler climate and high altitude Aozora, when translated in Japanese means “blue sky”, is deemed fit to name a restaurant in Tagaytay.

Aozora that is previously located in Domicillo Hotel, the restaurant can now be found in SVD Road and will continue to expand only in the area of Tagaytay to sustain its brand and to also be a go-to place in Tagaytay for the next coming years.

The bloggers and I able to try some of their dishes that are cooked in an authentic style by their Japanese Chef, Seiji Kamura. The ingredients are also fresh from Japan since their supplier goes back to Japan every now and then. With all that information I got, I cannot wait to share the food served to us! Please continue reading 😉

The Dragon Maki is served in a round chopping board plate that adds charm to the food. Since the nori is inside, and the rice is outside, this kind of maki is fragile yet surprisingly crunchy! I love how tasty this maki is.

The Aozora Ramen with a twist of Filipino taste of bulalo where Tagaytay is known for has a unique taste; it seems the broth is not from the beef. On the other hand, the beef that comes with it is very tender and flavorful.

Next served to us is the Chicken Teriyaki that is pleasantly smoky and the Seafood Teppanyaki that has a subtle hint of oyster sauce.

Of course, Tempura is a must and pairing it with Yasai Itame is a perfect combination!

They also serve breakfast like Omurice, served with miso soup and Sumiyaki coffee. They are open daily from 9:00 to 22:00.

Overall

From the outside, the vibe of Japanese ambiance has already taken into place because of the brown woods and the black accent of the restaurant. The price is competitive with the other Japanese restaurants I visited in the city. The serving is good for two and its taste is authentic I may say. The service is also efficient.

Uncle Cheffy, Tagaytay

Embracing the beauty of Taal Lake from afar is one of the reasons why people love to go to Tagaytay. As tourism continues to grow, putting up an amusement park like The Sky Ranch Tagaytay is one way for the people to spend their day happily by having a fun ride experience.

For the people who are hungry but do not want to go far from the amusement park, there are restaurants in the area. Some of the restaurants in Sky Ranch can only be found in Tagaytay while others also have branches in Metro Manila like Uncle Cheffy. With 13 Uncle Cheffy branches, sure this restaurant should you have not missed.

People might think Uncle Cheffy Tagaytay settled for the same food as they offer in Manila area but the Batangas Bulalo is an exception. Tagaytay that is known for offering bulalo, Uncle Cheffy make way to this beef soup dish zipped in by the locals and tourists. The soup is very rich and flavorful inclining to the salty side.

Craving for meat? Uncle Cheffy has All Meat Barbecue Platter brimming with the meat of lamb, beef, pork, and chicken. The lamb is good that it has a hint of herbs, and the beef is tender. The beef has a little sour touch when putting Memphis sauce on the side. The pork is chewy and sugary but still, it tasted good. On the other hand, the chicken is bland but pairing it with the sauce on the side satiates your palate. Oops, let’s not forget the delicious potato marbles!

After getting carnivorous, the Lovely Jenny Salad do not only give you leafy vegetables but also generous slices of apples, salmon, in a French dressing. The salad is named after the founder’s wife.

After having salad, here comes the All Meat Barbecue Panizza, where Uncle Cheffy is known for. The thinness of the bread gives more the room for savoring the flavor of the toppings. It is cheesy and topped with beef teriyaki, pork barbecue, and chicken barbecue meat! A-must order!

Lastly, the contrasting color of cream cheese and chocolate of Cheffy Cheesecake keeps you a lot of spoonful bites. The cream cheese is not as smooth as you would expect but it is the chocolate, in particular, entices you to have more.

Overall

Uncle Cheffy Tagaytay has adapted the nearby restaurants where it feels cozy. On the other hand, they have maintained the ambiance of the restaurant along with other Uncle Cheffy branches like the presence of the wood and the yellowish lighting. With this ambiance, people might think that going here for a meal is pricey but your P500 is enough to feel full and the serving is also big. The waiters are all attentive and as for the taste, it is overall good.
